Since 1977, the Crime Victims Treatment Center of St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital has been training members of the community, just like you, to work with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in the emergency rooms of our two hospitals. Our volunteers change the lives of the people with whom they work. Wouldn’t you like to join a volunteer community unlike any other? We thought so. Are you:

Over 18 years old?
Living within 20 minutes of St. Luke’s (114th St. and Amsterdam) and Roosevelt (59th and 10th) Hospitals?
Able to commit to the program for at least one year?
Able to attend ALL of the Training Dates below?

Training will be held on:
Thursday, October 11 from 6-9pm
Saturday, October 13 from 8am-5pm
Sunday, October 14 from 8am-5pm
Saturday, October 20 from 8am-5pm
Sunday, October 21 from 8am-5pm

Did you answer yes to those 4 simple questions? That’s great news. Now all you need to do is fill out an application and contact Christopher, the Volunteer Coordinator. Call him at 212.523.4494, or email him. He is looking forward to hearing from you. To download an application, click the link below. Once you’ve filled it out, email it to Christopher who will be in touch shortly after. Get ready to change lives.

Come join Farmer Nora and Slow Food NYC supporters to help develop their newest school garden out in Brownsville, Brooklyn. No experience necessary, but if you have construction, carpentry, or farming experience, it would be a huge help to have you join!
What to Bring: Water, lunch, safety glasses, gloves, sturdy shoes and any tools you can donate for us to use for the day (anything from power tools to a shovel). Be prepared to sign a liability waiver before you dig in.

Dates: April 28, 29; May 5, 6, 12,13, 19, 20

Time: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Location: PS 323 Urban Harvest Garden – 514 Rockaway Avenue (3 to Rockaway Ave OR L to Sutter Ave); Brooklyn [Map]

RSVP: Write to Nora at npainten@gmail.com with the subject line “Brownsville Build” to sign up for what days you want to come work – people are welcome (encouraged!) to sign up for multiple days. Bring a group of friends, bring people from work or school. Let Nora know if you can bring tools, especially power tools, so we can make sure we have enough extension cords.

Slow Food NYC is the New York City chapter of Slow Food, a non-profit, member-supported organization founded in 1989 to counteract the culture of fast food. Slow Food stands against the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.
