The goal of Give & Get is to take the mystery out of volunteering and to enable and encourage people to get involved in their community and the world around them. I also hope to connect people who like doing good things by letting them know about upcoming fundraisers and donation drives happening in New York City. Don’t have a lot of money to give? Don’t worry-everything I list is low-cost, ensuring that you can give back without breaking the bank.
Under the ‘Projects’ tab, you’ll find stories about my various experiences in volunteering, and read about exactly what you can expect from start to finish. My hope is that my experiences will inspire others to share their own stories, and, by taking away the unknown, encourage those who may be apprehensive about trying something new.
I encourage you look around the site, ask questions, give your own tips or advice, and get involved.
Hi – A few years ago I remember running into an Orginization that feeds the homeless on Sunday mornings somewhere around herald square/ Madison square garden. Does anyone know what this Orginization is or any similar organizations. I would love to start volunteering on Sunday mornings in the city, but don’t know where to start. Thanks!
Hi Kristi- There is a group called Coalition for the Homeless that delivers meals every night of the week all over Manhattan, including a route right through herald square/midtown. For Sunday mornings, check out local churches: St. Bart’s in gramercy and St. John the Divine on the Upper West Side are two examples. If you’re looking to get started volunteering, New York Cares is a great place to start if you’re not sure which kind of opportunity is right for you (you can try them all!). If you have more questions, please feel free to email info@giveandgetnyc.org and I’ll give you more specifics 🙂 -Rachel
