For Immediate Release: ioby Supper Club Launch Event with Chef Dave Martin

ioby launches exclusive Supper Club Series with September 15th event

ioby, a nonprofit organization that brings environmental projects to life in NYC neighborhoods, will kick-off a series of Supper Club events with an inaugural dinner on Thursday, September 15th at St. Marks Church in the Bowery featuring food by Chef Dave Martin of Bravo’s Top Chef: Season One and wines from Victor Schwartz of V.O.S. Selections.

This event will be the first in a series of dinners in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx where New Yorkers will dine outside for a spectacular, seasonal gourmet meal and learn more about the social, health and environmental impacts the city of New York faces due to food access issues. Proceeds from the series’ ticket sales will go to the Supper Club Fund that supports the many ioby projects that increase access to healthy food for NYC youth. Tickets from this dinner will directly benefit two selected ioby projects: Culinary Kids and La Plaza Cultural. Project leaders from Culinary Kids in Far Rockaway and La Plaza Cultural on East 9th Street will be at the dinner to share stories from their great work.

This intimate and rare dining experience will include a four-course seasonal meal and wine pairings. Tickets are limited to 35 diners: $125 apiece.

About Chef Dave Martin:

His mantra of using the freshest and best ingredients and creating “flavorful food without the fat,” coincides directly with ioby’s mission.

New Opportunity: Painting with the Met Council!

Volunteers needed to paint the recreation room of senior home on Wednesday, August 17th at 1:00 PM!

Description:  The Met Council is looking for some volunteers to spend an afternoon repainting a recreation room for low-income seniors who live in Brooklyn.  It’s an easy way to make a big impact! All the necessary materials will be provided, and with your help, the seniors will be able to enjoy their recreation space once more!

Volunteer in Brooklyn Bridge Park

This weekend you can enjoy the beautiful weather we will hopefully have, and volunteer at the same time! OneBrick will be organizing a group of volunteers on Saturday and Sunday in the amazing, newly renovated Brooklyn Bridge Park to help the Parks Department count visitors, which will in turn help them to have a better understanding of park usership and better plan seasonal programming. All you have to do is RSVP for a shift on OneBrick’s website and show up ready to count!

OneBrick is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) organization that creates short-term volunteer opportunities, with an emphasis on having fun and meeting new people while also remaining accessible to young professionals working the 9-5 grind.

Fashion & Cocktails for a Cause

When it comes to women in the workforce, fashion -especially in New York City- can make or break you. It can be that one thing giving you an edge over other people interviewing for the same job position; not necessarily because of the clothes you’re wearing, but the self-confidence and empowerment that those clothes bring out of you.

In 1996, an article in the New York Times came out describing the obstacles that mothers on public assistance had seeking work, including the lack of appropriate interview clothing and the lack of self-confidence to present themselves professionally in an unfamiliar interview setting. This became the catalyst for what is now the mission of Bottomless Closet: to help “disadvantaged New York City women become self-sufficient through a comprehensive program that begins with business attire and interview preparation and continues with professional development, financial management and personal enrichment,” using the model of “women helping women”.

On Thursday, June 9th from 6:30pm-9:30pm, you can join Bottomless Closet as they host a night of fashion and cocktails at The Park with emcee and celebrity stylist Derek Warburton. For $35 you will get cocktails generously provided by SKYY vodka, fashions courtesy of TJMaxx, and light hors d’oeuvres, as well as a runway show featuring real women who are clients of Bottomless Closet. VIP packages are also available for $100 per person. You can purchase tickets* by clicking here ahead of time or buy at the door for $40.

This is sure to be an amazing event honoring and helping women in need. If you’d like to learn more about Bottomless Closet and how you can help, visit their website. Can’t make the event but still want to help? Donations of all kinds are welcome, including in-kind handbags, shoes, jewelry, and professional attire for women, or money to purchase any of the above! In addition, being largely run by volunteers, extra hands always come in handy; volunteer your time for any number of projects, including mentoring, professional expertise, clothing consultation and more.

Brooklyn’s Largest Potluck for God’s Love

This Saturday May 14th, I’ll be joining forces with my good friend Mckenzie from the MMMGuide.com to throw one of Brooklyn’s Largest Potluck parties!

The event will raise money for God’s Love We Deliver, an organization founded over 25 years ago when one woman began delivering food on her bicycle to a man dying from AIDS, and which now cooks 3,600 meals each weekday, delivering them to clients living with life-altering illnesses throughout the Tri-State area.

This Saturday, we’ll be serving up some delicious main dishes of our own on a rooftop in Prospect Heights and asking our guests to bring a side dish, dessert, or beverage of their liking for everyone to share, as well as a $15 donation. Everyone will receive a raffle ticket which will enter them for a chance to win one of many fantastic prizes donated by and for some of our favorite NYC locals like The Meatball Shop, Living Free NYC, iCi Restaurant, and more! Additional tickets can be purchased, with 100% of the proceeds from the entire event going directly to God’s Love We Deliver.
