Dine Out for a Cause: Bread & Life’s “Feed the Need”

24 Oct

2014 UPDATE: THIS OPPORTUNITY HAS PASSED

Feed the Need: Dine Out for Bread and Life! is a dine out event that will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2013.  The event will benefit St. John’s Bread and Life, Brooklyn’s largest provider of emergency food.  100% of the funds raised will be used to purchase food for our hungry neighbors! This also happens to be National Food Day, a nationwide celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food.

1 in 5 adult New Yorkers – and 1 in 4 children — relies on food pantries and soup kitchens to meet their food needs. To respond to this need, Bread and Life needs the help of the entire food community.   Bread and Life serves more than 1,000,000 meals annually to our Brooklyn and Queens neighbors who would otherwise go hungry. We are asking restaurants, food purveyors, patrons and the entire food community to join us in combatting hunger in our neighborhoods!

Be part of the solution and support a great local cause!

About Bread and Life: Bread & Life is a 501c3 organization whose mission it is to feed those most vulnerable. This program began 31 years ago in direct response to the cuts in the federal budget for food aid, cuts which forced tens of thousands of New Yorkers to find a new way of providing meals for their families. Before these cuts, there were just sixteen emergency food agencies in New York City. After the cuts they mushroomed to more than 1,600.

544 Reasons to Celebrate

25 May

Just one week ago, my good friend Mckenzie and I threw ‘Brooklyn’s Largest Potluck’ party on a rooftop in Prospect Heights. There we gathered friends, coworkers, and a whole bunch of food in the name of charity; more specifically, we gathered for God’s Love We Deliver. With the help of our generous raffle prize donors and sponsors, we were able to raise $544 that day.

You can read McKenzie’s recap on her blog, The MMMGuide; she’s got the rundown of all the delicious food people managed to make and bring, conquering the weather and horrendous MTA weekend service. Thank you all who made it out and helped us raise money for such an amazing cause!

Brooklyn’s Largest Potluck for God’s Love

11 May

This Saturday May 14th, I’ll be joining forces with my good friend Mckenzie from the MMMGuide.com to throw one of Brooklyn’s Largest Potluck parties!

The event will raise money for God’s Love We Deliver, an organization founded over 25 years ago when one woman began delivering food on her bicycle to a man dying from AIDS, and which now cooks 3,600 meals each weekday, delivering them to clients living with life-altering illnesses throughout the Tri-State area.

This Saturday, we’ll be serving up some delicious main dishes of our own on a rooftop in Prospect Heights and asking our guests to bring a side dish, dessert, or beverage of their liking for everyone to share, as well as a $15 donation. Everyone will receive a raffle ticket which will enter them for a chance to win one of many fantastic prizes donated by and for some of our favorite NYC locals like The Meatball Shop, Living Free NYC, iCi Restaurant, and more! Additional tickets can be purchased, with 100% of the proceeds from the entire event going directly to God’s Love We Deliver.

Interested in attending? We’d love to have you! Just email me (Rachel) at giveandgetnyc@gmail.com or McKenzie at themmmguide@gmail.com to RSVP and obtain that vital piece of info you’ll need in order to attend: Where’s the potluck party at?!

Many thanks to our generous supporters who have donated products or raffle items to the event:
